3. Temporal Lobes:
- location: along the sides of the frontal and parietal lobes (behind the ears)
- functions: the site of auditory reception (hearing); important for auditory and receptive language processing, emotion and memory skills
- possible impairments: may involve long-term memory; difficulties with selective attention of auditory and visual input; disturbance of auditory sensation and visual perception; difficulty with understanding of words (language comprehension) and the organization and categorization of verbal material; altered personality and sexual behavior.
- left side lesions result in decreased recall of verbal and visual content, thus, they may not recognize the meaning of words
- right side lesions result in decreased musical abilities and recognition of tonal sequences; they may affect recognition of visual content (e.g. recall of faces).
