2. Parietal Lobes:
- location: behind the frontal lobes and above the occipital lobes.
- functions: the primary reception site for body sensation; analyzes information from the skin concerning pressure, touch, temperature and some aspects of pain. It is crucial for our sense of space, the spatial relationships between things in our environment and where our body parts are in relation to each other.
- possible impairments: depend on the location of the damage
- left parietal lobe damage: may result in right-left confusion, difficulty with writing (agraphia), mathematics (acalculia) and language (aphasia) and difficulty with perceiving objects normally (agnosia).
- damage to the right parietal lobe: may result in neglecting part of the body or space (contralateral neglect), which may interfere with self-care abilities such as washing and dressing; it may also impact drawing skills.
