1. Frontal lobes:
- location: in the front of each cerebral hemisphere behind the forehead; due to their position at the front of the skull, the frontal lobes are extremely vulnerable to injury.
- functions: reasoning, planning, executive functioning (see "symptoms" tab under TBI for full explanation), initiation, judgment, reasoning, behavior and decision-making.
- possible impairments: individuals may be akinetic in their general behavior; non-fluent in their language; have poor motivation; cannot carry out multi-step commands and may actively resist any type of intervention by caretakers.
- others may appear superficially normal, but they tend to be irresponsible and socially inappropriate and cannot be relied on to sustain goal-oriented activities.
